Research Abstract:

In Tanzania, School-home communications relies heavily upon paper based diaries, letters, and report cards. These strategies for promoting parents involvement have barriers in their implementation. Letters, and report cards rarely arrives home and many are not showing up at all. An alternative to previous methods is face-to-face meeting which is also difficult to arrange and as such they are held to mark important events Mobile devices and the internet have become a main source of communication in today's society. Individuals are becoming more comfortable with using internet for many tasks that were formerly completed by other means. Through this available technology, teachers can establish another line of communication with the parents of their students. A digital diary that is carefully and purposefully constructed may be a great tool for information sharing between teacher and parents. This study will investigate the practicality as well as teachers and parents desire for such communication tool. The digital diary will also serve as the basis for future development of application intended to promote school-home communication specifically for Tanzania.
